#Book #Review. . .Leave No Trace by Mindy Mejia #Fivestar #Goodread

From the author of the “compelling” (Star Tribune, Minneapolis) and critically acclaimed Everything You Want Me to Be, a riveting and suspenseful thriller about the mysterious disappearance of a boy and his stunning return ten years later.

There is a place in Minnesota with hundreds of miles of glacial lakes and untouched forests called the Boundary Waters. Ten years ago a man and his son trekked into this wilderness and never returned.

Search teams found their campsite ravaged by what looked like a bear. They were presumed dead until a decade later...the son appeared. Discovered while ransacking an outfitter store, he was violent and uncommunicative and sent to a psychiatric facility. Maya Stark, the assistant language therapist, is charged with making a connection with their high-profile patient. No matter how she tries, however, he refuses to answer questions about his father or the last ten years of his life

But Maya, who was abandoned by her own mother, has secrets, too. And as she’s drawn closer to this enigmatic boy who is no longer a boy, she’ll risk everything to reunite him with his father who has disappeared from the known world.

The Sexy Nerd ‘Revue’

How does a father and son go missing ten years ago, only for the son to return ten years later? Was this of their own doing or was there something more sinister at play here? Josiah Blackthorn never knew his life carried any remarkable significance until his son, Lucas, was discovered alive and somewhat well. Lucas was brought to a psychiatric facility where he met, Maya Stark, his speech therapist.

Maya was charged with the responsibility of getting Lucas to talk about what happened over the last decade when he and his father went off the grid. Lucas trusted no one, but there was something different about Maya. Even though he couldn’t convey to her how he was feeling, he knew there was something special about her. Where had Lucas seen this lovely young woman before? Dreams, perhaps? A figment of his imagination? Why did she remind him of someone he knew from his past?

To give an accurate review of this story would be to give too many spoilers, but let’s say that what you think is happening in the story, I can guarantee you isn’t what you’re thinking about. Maya and Lucas are bound by something far greater than just a story, but that, readers, is something you’ll have to discover for yourself.

What an incredible story. This is my first time reading Mejia’s work, and I have to say I’m definitely a fan. It’s not often I run across a book that takes me on such an emotional roller coaster, but Leave No Trace is one such book. I had so many questions and although I pride myself on navigating through a story, Mejia managed to keep me guessing. I absolutely loved her for that! I really loved this story! It’s very different from books I normally read, so it was refreshing to read a new voice and a new take on a storyline. Mejia’s perspective is off the charts. She definitely knows how to build the reader up and what’s nice is she doesn’t let you down. Great story!
