If it weren't for books, I don't know where I'd be. The thought of not having the "written" word in print to sink my eyes into would be downright devastating. Not only am I an avid reader, but a writer as well. If anyone would have told me that creating fictional stories could potentially be banned from libraries and readers alike, I would have laughed in their face. But, the sad reality is, it's not a laughing matter. Books are being burned and banned at an alarming rate robbing future readers and young minds of education, as well as creativity. I do not believe in censorship, periodt!
It is the Sexy Nerd's belief that anyone is entitled to read what he or she would like. You also have the right to not like certain genres. But, what you do not get to do is tell someone else that he/she shouldn't read a book because it does not fall within your beliefs. Reading, like a remote control, puts you in the driver's seat. You get to decide what interests you, but you do not get to tell someone else they can't enjoy a subject because you do not like it. In other words, some need to stay in their lanes and stop crossing into others if you do not like the speed in which they are going. All of this madness makes me wonder what's next?
Today burned and banned books, tomorrow--what? Democracy completely gone. 🙄 This is a slippery slope we humans are on. Eventually, something that interests you may end up on the chopping block. Be careful what you wish for, people!
At the end of the day, burning and/or banning books is wrong! You're stifling creativity, as well as growth from individuals who seek it. You're sending a direct message to people that your interests mean nothing. Your contributions mean nothing. Your creativity is not wanted here. How truly sad this is. 😥
