The Sexy #Nerd #Review Featuring...Becoming by Michelle Obama...#Memoir #Autobiography

In a life filled with meaning and accomplishment, Michelle Obama has emerged as one of the most iconic and compelling women of our era. As First Lady of the United States of America—the first African American to serve in that role—she helped create the most welcoming and inclusive White House in history, while also establishing herself as a powerful advocate for women and girls in the U.S. and around the world, dramatically changing the ways that families pursue healthier and more active lives, and standing with her husband as he led America through some of its most harrowing moments. Along the way, she showed us a few dance moves, crushed Carpool Karaoke, and raised two down-to-earth daughters under an unforgiving media glare.

In her memoir, a work of deep reflection and mesmerizing storytelling, Michelle Obama invites readers into her world, chronicling the experiences that have shaped her—from her childhood on the South Side of Chicago to her years as an executive balancing the demands of motherhood and work, to her time spent at the world’s most famous address. With unerring honesty and lively wit, she describes her triumphs and her disappointments, both public and private, telling her full story as she has lived it—in her own words and on her own terms. Warm, wise, and revelatory, Becoming is the deeply personal reckoning of a woman of soul and substance who has steadily defied expectations—and whose story inspires us to do the same.

The Sexy Nerd ‘Revue’

It has taken me a minute, but I finally got around to reading this book I’ve heard so much about. This book is ranked one of the best to read in your lifetime, and I couldn’t agree more with that statement.

If I had one word to sum up Michelle Obama’s life, it would be nearly impossible to do. Amazing, awesome, groundbreaking, incredible, wholesome, courage, strength, sadness, loss, reflection, and the list goes on.  However, the one word I’d use to sum up this woman is epic! To read Mrs. Obama’s life story made me feel like I had grown up right next to her. She made me feel as though I was her little sister offering up words of wisdom and girl power to get me through. What is there to say that hasn’t already been said?

What a captivating motivational speaker she is. Her bravery and eagerness to deal with all types of adversities, trials and tribulations, while still holding her head very high is a true testament of this woman’s strength. She has her awesome parents and upbringing to thank for that. Mrs. Obama by no means is anyone’s wuss. This woman can rock with the best of them as she demonstrated throughout her incredible journey of being our First Lady for eight years during her husband’s tenure in the White House. But what I absolutely loved about this book is that it was truly about “becoming” who she is today. It wasn’t all about her being the First Lady, but about what brought her to this place.

I enjoyed as she recounted her earlier years as the young Michelle Robinson discovering what life had to offer and where she wanted to go. She demonstrated her strength early on in life which has carried her through thus far. What was even more profound with her memoir is her realness. This woman is just like you and me. She didn’t sugarcoat her life and pretend that everything was peaches and cream, because I believe she knew we’d be able to see through the bullshit. I didn’t get any fluff with her words. She told her story as raw and unforgiving as she could. I absolutely loved that about her story.

Being an avid memoir reader, I can smell BS a mile away. I didn’t feel any of that with her book. She said just what she needed to say and I feel it’s a book that her daughters will be proud to read and hold near and dear to them. What a legacy to leave! I was just in awe reading her words. I know many of our readers are into audio books, in which she has received an award for doing just that with her book, but I must say, having read her words, I could hear her as if she was sitting there reciting her life to me. She painted such vivid memories that was so exciting and fearful at the same time.

Regardless as to what your political affiliation is, reading about this woman’s life will enrich your mind, body and soul. If you’re looking for a good pick-me-up and take me higher type of read, Michelle Obama’s memoir will do it for you. My, my, my, what an incredible read. Simply awesome!

I got to see her in person when she came to my city when her husband was running for office back in 2008. I had front row seats and I felt then like she was speaking directly to my soul, and her book made me feel the exact same way. She seems like such a down-to-earth girl-next-door type of chick. I love that about her. She doesn’t throw her accomplishments up in your face, but rather shares her experiences and gives you praise and hope to want to do these things for yourself. How can you hate on that? I tell ya, I love this lady. What a damn good read! Thank you, Mrs. Obama, for sharing your story with the world. We need more like you!

The Sexy Nerd gives Becoming five self-made stars and beyond. Becoming can have more than one meaning depending on how the reader views her words. She isn’t becoming but has already arrived and the great thing about her is, we can expect more greatness to come. Oh no, she’s not anywhere near done with all that she will do with her life. If you haven’t read this yet, make sure you grab a copy of this once in a lifetime read! Bravo!!!!!!
