The #Sexy #Nerd #Review...Girl On the Train...#Psychological #Suspense #Thriler

Rachel catches the same commuter train every morning. She knows it will wait at the same signal each time, overlooking a row of back gardens. She’s even started to feel like she knows the people who live in one of the houses. “Jess and Jason,” she calls them. Their life—as she sees it—is perfect. If only Rachel could be that happy. And then she sees something shocking. It’s only a minute until the train moves on, but it’s enough. Now everything’s changed. Now Rachel has a chance to become a part of the lives she’s only watched from afar. Now they’ll see; she’s much more than just the girl on the train...

The  Sexy Nerd's Review

I absolutely love trains. I remember the first time I took a train to New York City. It was the most exhilarating experience. There’s something about the hum of the engine that sort of mesmerizes you and the scenery outside your window is just breath taking. For me, it was the most soothing mode of transportation I’ve ever taken, and I can’t wait to take a train trip one day in the distant future. Every day, I watch the cargo trains outside my office building and I, too, like Rachel, sometimes find myself imagining what the conductor is doing and where the train is headed and what is the train carrying, etc. I get why Rachel got so caught up in the couple she’d pass on her way to work every day. Except, Rachel wasn’t really going to work.

What was she doing, you ask? Lying to her flatmate, Cathy, about still having a job. You see, Rachel lost her job due to her drinking. She didn’t have the heart to come clean and tell her flatmate that she’d been fired, so she’d get up alongside Cathy, and go about her daily routine as if nothing has ever happened. And what’s worse, not only is she lying about her career status, but she’s also making up things in her mind about a couple she’s been watching while riding the train every morning.

Rachel even made-up names for this couple and she knew just about every detail of their lives through her extreme case of nosiness. Until one day, Rachel is on the train and when she checks out her favorite couple, she notices that the man who is hugged up and kissing the wife isn’t the woman’s husband. Wait, what? Immediately, Rachel is upset because she realizes that her favorite couple is flawed. The wife is having an affair, and this is making her feel a way about it. But what was even more disturbing is the house she watches from the train isn’t exactly strange to her. In fact, she knows the house all to well. She used to live a few doors down from the one she’s been fantasizing about.

Her ex-husband Tom and his new wife Anna and their baby girl live not too far from the couple she thought was so wonderful. So, imagine Rachel’s surprise when she learns that the woman who was kissing this strange man was found murdered and her face was plastered all over the news. Uh oh, Rachel has a dilemma. The police immediately suspect the husband, who’s name is Scott. Rachel doesn’t believe Scott killed his wife because she knows that Megan, the deceased, was having an affair. So, Rachel does the unthinkable. She reaches out to Scott to tell him her story and that, readers, is where this story really goes off in several different directions.

Between Rachel, Megan, Tom and Anna they each have something to add to the story that takes the reader on a mind-bending journey to get to who wanted Megan dead and why. Wow! I was super impressed with this story, but about 20% into it, I figured the story out. Damn! Damn! Damn! When you’ve read as much as I have, there’s not much a writer can do to throw me off, and if they manage to do so, they are really good, and I have to say, I had about five scenarios going the whole time I was reading, but I knew the one in my gut at the very beginning of the story told me I was on the right track, and indeed I was. Even though I figured the story out, I couldn’t get enough of it. This was a juicy book to sink my eyes into. Oh my, I did enjoy it indeed!

The Sexy Nerd gives The Girl on the Train four extra seats to carry the load. What an experience to ride a train and then to read about it was just the icing on the cake. If you haven’t read this story, I most definitely would recommend that you start. You’ll be so glad you did. Until next time, Nerds, you know what to do!
