The Sexy Nerd's Review

It is often said “the truth will set you free.” But, does it really? Just because a person releases the truth, does that somehow make it less effective for the individual victim for whom the lie has been told? Telling the truth does offer the lie keeper a bit of freedom, but it still inflicts harm on the unsuspecting person. As was the case with Vince and Nicole. Vince was a self-made entrepreneur running a multi-million dollar electronics company called KitzTech. He built the company from the ground up with his blood, sweat and tears. His beautiful wife, Nicole, ran a successful yoga studio on their palatial estate.

From the outside looking in, Vince and Nicole were the perfect couple in a perfect marriage. They had it all. They didn’t have a need or want, except, of course, having a completed family. They’d tried for years to have a baby and to no avail. This devastated Nicole and shattered Vince. So, how does one deal with not being able to bear children. Oh…yeah, Vince begins to look elsewhere. KitzTech was in the process of bringing in new interns to one day work for the electronic giant.

It just so happens that on one particular day Vince is in the office handling business as he always did and a gorgeous tender-roni steps into view. Who was this beautiful, young brunette with curves and brains to match? Layla Bosch that’s who! Vince was blown away by her beauty and in awe of her college transcript. Brains and beauty—Oh my! He strikes up a conversation with Layla and eventually he’s taking Layla to lunch, and showing her around New York City. He takes her on a ferry ride and they share an intimate kiss that eventually turned into more. Oh sure, it was innocent enough, at first, but then they’re knocking boots all over the office until Vince realizes that wasn’t the brightest idea. You think? So, what does Vince do? Oh yeah, he takes her to his apartment he keeps in the city for the nights he doesn’t want to drive back home. Despite having this love affair with his intern, he felt guilty for lying to his wife, but he couldn’t help himself. He was upset that they couldn’t have the one thing they most wanted in the world, so cheating on his wife was the answer to that problem.

But, as with all good things, they must come to an end. Layla was getting careless about their affair and Vince couldn’t risk losing his business and his wife, so he grew tired of her. Typical for what usually happens with side pieces. Layla was upset that her dream of becoming his new wife was fading in the distance. She gave him an ultimatum, in which Vince did not wish to comply, but he agreed to meet with her one last time. Funny thing though, she stood him up, or so he thought.

Layla Bosch was found dead in Central Park and that, readers, is where our story soars. Hmm, the plot thickens with each turning of the pages. I really liked this story. It was a decent whodunit type of story, although I figured it out within fifteen percent of reading. It’s hard to fool a seasoned vet like myself, but it didn’t distract from the story at all.

I had a ball reading how Vince did all he could to hide his affair. It was so awesome watching him squirm. I didn’t feel sorry for him one iota! He deserved everything that came his way. One thing I do note is that I didn’t find the ending to be jaw-dropping. It didn’t surprise me in the least. As I mentioned, I figured this story out very early on and it just further validated my gut feeling at the onset. But again, it was still a good story to sink your eyes into.

The Sexy Nerd gives The Guilty Husband four slaps of truth serum. If you love a whodunit and like reading about drama, The Guilty Husband most definitely delivers. It’s not too long and is well written and you’ll enjoy the journey. Until next time, you know what to do!
