After a sudden change of plans, a remarkable woman and her loyal group of friends try to figure out what she's going to do with the rest of her life--from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of How Stella Got Her Groove Back and Waiting to Exhale

Loretha Curry's life is full. A little crowded sometimes, but full indeed. On the eve of her sixty-eighth birthday, she has a booming beauty supply empire, a gaggle of lifelong friends, and a husband who's still got moves that surprise. True, she's carrying a few more pounds than she should be, but she's not one of those women who thinks her best days are behind her, and she's determined to prove her mother, her twin sister, and everyone else with that outdated view of aging wrong--it's not all downhill from here.

But when an unexpected loss turns her world upside down, Loretha will have to summon all her strength, resourcefulness, and determination to keep on thriving, pursue joy, heal old wounds, and chart new paths. With a little help from her friends, of course.

The Sexy Nerd's Review...

With a McMillan book, the reader should already know the novel is right on time. Wow, I’m so glad I waited to read this now instead of when it first came out because although I’m not the age of the ladies in this story, I can damn sure relate to where they are coming from.

Loretha Curry was a blessed woman. She has a loving and caring husband, Carl. She has two adult children each living their best lives as they can. Her twin sister, Odessa, whom she would like to forget is her twin at times. The best friends a woman could ever ask for. Grandchildren and great-grandchildren and a lucrative beauty business she has owned and operated for most of her adult life. From the outside looking in, one would think Loretha has the best that life has to offer and there shouldn’t be anything she would want or need, but…as we all know, life isn’t quite that simple.

A sudden tragedy happens in Loretha’s life causing her to re-examine the course her life should go. With her good girlfriends around, each having their own set of problems, they try to keep Loretha from losing what little mind she has left. As she journeys through this thing called life, she soon discovers that what she initially thought her family should look like and be, doesn’t have to be the norm, and as much as the thought bothers her at times, she’s soon settling into a new groove and liking it.

As usual, McMillan hit all the nails on the head with this one. Looking at the aging process and how women tend to deal with medical updates that they just weren’t ready to receive. From having ungrateful children who do not recognize nor care to recognize their mothers were once single women that had full lives well before they entered into the picture. Overall, this was a gut punch of reality about how life actually goes as you age and the obstacles that get in our way while trying to figure out is it really all downhill from here? Loretha finally got the answer she was seeking as you will too as you read this wonderful story about love, loss, and life after seventy.

McMillan never disappoints. Like I stated at the beginning of my review her writing is always right on time with such rich and vibrant characters that will feel like real people you know. In fact, you may see yourself in one or more of these awesome characters. I truly enjoyed this journey. I laughed and even cried in spots because I could truly relate to what Loretha was dealing with. I tell you what, as my mother always says, “getting old ain’t for sissies! You better learn to buckle down!” Yes, Loretha and I definitely had lots in common.

The Sexy Nerd gives It’s Not All Downhill from Here five additional friends to share the ride. If you enjoy a good chick lit novel or a book with awesome characters that are as real as you and me, then you most definitely want to read this. I’m so glad I finally got this one off my shelf. Until next time. . .you know what to do!
