William Wooler is a family man, on the surface. But he's been having an affair, an affair that ended horribly this afternoon at a motel up the road. So when he returns to his house, devastated and angry, to find his difficult nine-year-old daughter Avery unexpectedly home from school, William loses his temper.
Hours later, Avery's family declare her missing.
Suddenly Stanhope doesn't feel so safe. And William isn't the only one on his street who's hiding a lie. As witnesses come forward with information that may or may not be true, Avery's neighbours become increasingly unhinged.
Who took Avery Wooler?
The Sexy Nerd's Review. . .
It never ceases to amaze me when one mistake can blow up and turn into something so huge you might otherwise have missed, if it wasn’t for how that mistake impacted so many lives.
Dr. William Wooler was having an affair. He didn’t mean for it to happen but this cute young woman working as a volunteer at the same hospital where he worked just happened to come into his line of vision and the rest, as they say, is history.
The problem was Nora, his side chick, was married too. Both of them had children as well. They didn’t mean to fall in love with each other and yearned to start new lives with each other, if it weren’t for those pesky spouses of theirs. 🙄
Nora began feeling too guilty about the deceit to her husband and on her last night with William, unbeknownst to him, she told him it was over. Just like that! Point! Blank! Period! William was irate. They loved one another. How on earth was she just going to up and leave him now?
William drove home because he knew the house would be empty. His wife was at work, the kids were in school and he needed a place all to himself so he could think things through.
Hmm…problem was when he got home, he wasn’t alone. His daughter, Avery, was there. What in the hell was she doing home? Turns out the school gave her detention and instead of waiting for her brother, as her parents had a million times told her to do, she decided to go home instead. Her brother was also the same person who told her where the hidden spare key was kept, so what was the harm, right?
Dr. Wooler was angry that the love of his life just called it quits. He wanted some alone time to get his mind right and here sat his daughter working on his last nerve. Off the bat, William wanted to know why Avery was home and she got mouthy with her father and him already being in a foul mood, struck his daughter in the face knocking her to the floor. Instantly he regretted slapping his daughter but he couldn’t help himself. He had too many emotions going on that his daughter just didn’t understand.
As you can imagine, she recoiled from his quick embrace and he kept apologizing to her that he didn’t mean it and to please not mention this to her mother but Avery just gave him a look and that made William all the more guilty for having struck his daughter in the face.
He needed air and to get out of this house. So, he grabbed his keys and left his daughter in the kitchen. Several hours later, William’s wife blows up his phone. He dreaded answering because he knew his daughter must have said something but the call he was expecting to get wasn’t what he got. Avery was missing. Wait…what?
Yes, Dr. Wooler’s daughter went missing. How on earth could that be? He just saw his daughter a few hours ago in the kitchen. Where could she have gone that fast? As he was thinking of all of these things, his wife was frantic with worry and he immediately went home to be with his wife and son. They alert the authorities and the nightmare of being a parent of a missing child has officially begun. Where was Avery?
OMG! When I tell you I was glued to the pages of my Kindle I couldn’t tap fast enough to get to the next page. I have to give a special shout out to the Mystery Lovers Bookshop in Oakmont, PA for the awesome recommendation of this book. When you fill out a profile of the types of books you like and pay a fee for the book and shipping, they will send you a book based on your selection and they nailed it for me. I’m definitely going to try that service again with them. Awesome!
This is one of those stories like I mentioned at the beginning of my review that one mistake can morph into something that you didn’t see coming. I think Dr. Wooler has more than learned his mistake a bit too late, but oh well. Even though I enjoyed the story so much, there were times I felt the book dragged a little and could have ended much sooner than it did, but having said that, I still had fun reading it and finding out all the tea on the people in the town of Stanhope. I tell ya those small towns can be a doosie.
The Sexy Nerd gives Everyone Here is Lying four stars and I’m being quite honest. 😁 This was an incredible story. I could not get enough of how it kept building like a crescendo with each note going stronger than the last. If you’re looking for some excitement, drama, and mayhem, you most definitely need to read this story. You’re going to get that and so much more. Until next time, Nerds, you know how we do!
