Beth Murphy is on the run...
For nearly a year, Beth has been planning for this day. A day some people might call any other Wednesday, but Beth prefers to see it as her new beginning--one with a new look, new name and new city. Beth has given her plan significant thought, because one small slip and her violent husband will find her.
Sabine Hardison is missing...
A couple hundred miles away, Jeffrey returns home from a work trip to find his wife, Sabine, is missing. Wherever she is, she's taken almost nothing with her. Her abandoned car is the only evidence the police have, and all signs point to foul play.
As the police search for leads, the case becomes more and more convoluted. Sabine's carefully laid plans for her future indicate trouble at home, and a husband who would be better off with her gone. The detective on the case will stop at nothing to find out what happened and bring this missing woman home. Where is Sabine? And who is Beth? The only thing that's certain is that someone is lying and the truth won't stay buried for long.
The Sexy Nerd 's Review
This is the first time I’ve read this author and I have to say this was a decent read, although I figured the story out before I got to the ending.
Beth Murphy went on the run. Her demons seemed to be catching up to her, but no matter what, she wasn’t stopping for anyone. She was told too many times how stupid she was. How unpretty she was. How she wasn’t woman enough. Too many slaps and punches to the face and body. The man she married so many years ago was not the man she began to fear. The man she married many years ago loved her and cherished the ground she walked on, so what changed? Absolutely nothing. It was a faรงade like so many of us wear every day. Her husband was a respected man in the community, and you’d be hard pressed to find anyone that would believe her story of domestic abuse.
That is, until she ran into an angel who gave her the courage to leave her rotten, violent husband. The angel who told her, her life mattered and that she is beautiful and extremely intelligent. The angel who gave her directives on how to save up as much money as she could for as long as she could so she could plan her escape. As Beth moved about the country, she thought about her angel and truly respected her for it.
Meanwhile, Sabine Hardison was missing. Her husband had no idea where his hotshot wife was? She was a highly respected real estate agent, the top in her field. In fact, she was the bread winner of their home. This didn’t sit too well with Jeffrey, but he went along with it because he loved Sabine. Although, her twin sister had a different take on her brother-in-law, and as the two of them try to figure out what happened to Sabine, one thing becomes certain—Jeffrey didn’t know his wife at all. In fact, her twin knew more about her life away from home than her own husband and that didn’t sit well with Jeffrey. There were some hard truths that came to light that he couldn’t comprehend. Why was it his sister-in-law knew every aspect of his wife’s life and he was left out in the cold? Why did she hate him so much? Well, for starters, his sister-in-law knew a dirty secret that Jeffrey thought only he and his wife shared. When she reveals this to him and the police, Jeffrey soon realizes he’s the person-of-interest and prime suspect in his wife’s disappearance. And that, readers, is where your journey into Beth’s and Sabine’s lives begin.
Wow, what I loved about this story is how Belle managed to take the reader on a mind trip whereas you’re not exactly sure who is narrating the story. Is it Beth? Is it Sabine? Is it the author or someone else? Are these two stories one in the same or are they different? I must admit it took me about halfway through the story line when I began to realize what was really happening, or at least, I had a few scenarios playing throughout my mind’s eye. This was a pretty darn good book.
The Sexy Nerd gives Dear Wife four additional handwritten letters. If you enjoy suspenseful reads and one that twists and turns your mind in a hundred different directions, this is the book for you. I most enjoyed it and I’m positive you will too. Until next time, Nerds, you know what to do!
