#BookBlitz...Dork #NA #Contemporary #Humor

DORK
By Will Winkle
Genre: New Adult, Contemporary, Humor

Book Description

Charlie Brown meets The Catcher in the Rye in this humorous novel following a neurotic economics major weeks from graduation.

Ray Cooper is graduating from college and doesn’t know what he wants to do with his life – stop me if you’ve heard this before. Besides his impending graduation, Coop also has the problem of trying to start a new relationship in the shadow of his last one. Plus, his term project is due in two weeks. He’s also losing his hair. Alright, he has a few problems. Over a weekend, Ray attends the birthday party of a girl he isn't sure if he knows, meets odd people at bars, and looks forward to the last hurrah he and his friends have planned for Saturday when the local bars are offering discounts to anyone with wristbands sold for charity. There’s no way any of this could go wrong.

Excerpt:

You’re supposed to run going with traffic, but the other side of the street lacked a sidewalk for that particular section of my route. Instead, there was a dirt trail lined on both sides by patches of tall grass. Whenever I ran on that side a clutch of small rocks would magically appear inside of my shoes, and it was the time of year when snakes and lizards were starting to be out and about. I’m not afraid of snakes, I’ve been startled more times by sticks that looked like snakes than actual snakes. As long as I see one soon enough I’m fine with it, but I’m markedly less fine with unexpectedly colliding with a living creature that has so much in common with a rope. It’s not like they can deftly avoid an impending running shoe, so if I spot it too late there’s nothing either of us can do. Snakes can become tangled around your legs, their only choice of action being to writhe around, which wouldn’t make matters better for either of us. I don’t like octopi for the same reason, them being the small net to the snakes' rope. My world changed the first time I saw a bird carrying a snake while flying. Implying that at any moment my day can be ruined in a way that I hadn’t even considered possible. I’m happy that I don’t live by the sea or a large open-air aquarium, because if I ever saw a bird flying with an octopus, I doubt I would ever go outside again.

#Book #Tour...The Occult Persuasion and the Anarchist's Solution...#Humor #Thriller #Giveaway

The Occult Persuasion and the Anarchist's Solution
by Lisa de Nikolits
Genre: Humorous Thriller

Publisher: Inanna Poetry and Fiction Series
Publication Date: September 30, 2019
The Occult Persuasion and the Anarchist’s Solution is about a couple experiencing a crisis. The husband, Lyndon, loses his job as editor of a financial magazine. Neither are happy with aging. Lyndon has gotten by with charm and frozen emotions. The wife, Margaux, has no idea how angry she is with him for his detachment. It is her idea to sell the house and just travel. But he is not coping well with retirement, so he simply walks off a ferry in Australia and leaves her. He steals a cat (well, he steals an expensive SUV that happens to have a cat onboard) and he flees Sydney, ending up in Apollo Bay, a few hours south-west of Melbourne, where he falls in with a group of anarchists and punk rockers in a tattoo parlour, planning revolution.

Meanwhile, Margaux sits tight in Sydney with no idea of where her husband might be or what happened. She moves into the red-light Kings Cross area, befriending the owner of the hostel, a seventy-year-old ex-cop drag queen from Saint John, New Brunswick, and waits to hear from her husband.

When she learns that her husband is fine, she is consumed by wrath and she invokes the angry spirit of an evil nurse, a key player in the terrible Chelmsworth sleep therapy in which many patients died (historical fact). While Lyndon gets in touch with his original career ambition to become an artist and wrestles with anarchism versus capitalism, Margaux learns to deal with her rage.

A serio-comedic thriller about a couple who embark on an unintentionally life-changing around-the-world adventure, The Occult Persuasion and the Anarchist’s Solution is about the meaning of life, healing from old wounds, romantic love at all ages, and how love and passion can make a difference, at any age.

He is definitely unhappy when he (it?) engages him to find out who shot him. But the worse is yet to come; Dave’s girlfriend gets involved and the real trouble begins.

Episode 1 of the DEAD & BUSY series will keep you laughing to the (bitter) end.

Phantom Lover
Dead & Busy Episode 2
A SEXY ECTOPLASMIC HOOKER

Why Do All These Deadies Keep Flocking Around Dave?

"It was bad enough, I can assure you, finding a half-naked ectoplasm sitting at my desk, but she had to talk nonsense too . . ."

Dave Callaghan is used to having ghosts drop by uninvited at all hours. But this time he is in for a new experience, and you must get ready for a good laugh!

Mice
Dead & Busy Episode 3

When white mice plague a short-tempered mobster, he hires Dave Callaghan to find out where they are coming from. The mobster wants to know why the mice wake him up in the middle of the night to recite "Mary had a little lamb" to him.

Dave is used to dealing with ghosts of every description, but this time he is facing a complex conspiracy that involves the government and a lascivious ghost.

Episode 3 of the DEAD & BUSY series - the one with the Aussie ghost sailor.

The Accountant
Dead & Busy Book 4
HOW TO ELOPE WITH A GHOST

In Which the Accountant Disappears With the Bank Codes

The need to walk into a ghostly brothel doesn't put Dave off. He even befriends one of the girls there and fun is had by all.

The Sexy Nerd's #Review Featuring...Woke Up Dead...#Humor #rabtbooktours @RABTBookTours @nadiagilkes

Hope Allison McKinley died. Or, at least everyone thought she did. When she suddenly wakes up in the middle of her own funeral - to the shock of all her loved ones - that is just the beginning of her problems.

Reawakened, Hope now sees what everyone really thought of her. The casket is cheap, the flowers suck, and she’s wearing an outfit she wouldn’t be caught dead in! It’s her worst nightmare come true and all hell is about to break loose.

In Woke Up Dead, Hope is faced with the enormous task of putting her death behind her and rebuilding her life. Having to overcome being a YouTube sensation and being shunned by her family, she slowly comes to realize that this is going to be a long, difficult, frustrating road.

If you ever wondered what would happen if you Woke Up Dead, let Hope Allison McKinley walk you through the trials and tribulations in a story that will have you dying to read more.

The Sexy Nerd ‘Revue’

I hosted this book a few weeks ago on The Sexy Nerd ‘Revue’ for RABT Book Tours. It sounded so interesting, I asked them if I could read an advanced copy, and they granted me that wish. Below is my review of the novella.

Death is just as much of a living and breathing action as life. It’s something that we all must do. To live forever would be for the hearts and memories of those that remain on earth, but to physically last forever, is not possible to do. And speaking of impossibilities, how about having died and witnessing your own funeral, only to come back to life?

Umm hmm, if that sounds crazy, you’re not the only one. Poor Hope Allison McKinley had been called home. The Almighty had needs for Hope up in heaven and it was her time to move on and let her remaining loved ones here to grieve. The only problem was, nobody told Hope she was dead. She had no idea that she had moved on to the afterlife. You’re probably wondering what exactly do I mean? You see, Hope wasn’t dead. She was very much alive just like you and me, except, the EMTs, funeral home and hospital all declared Hope dead, but she wasn’t.

Of course, when she comes out of her coma at her funeral, it soon becomes apparent as the grieving guests are scurrying around like roaches when the lights come on, running for their lives from this dead woman who is sitting up in the funeral home looking at everyone. She’s stuck in the casket and can’t get out, but there wasn’t anybody around to assist her. The next time Hope comes to, she’s in the hospital trying to figure out why she was dressed in a horrible green gown lying in a casket at her own damn funeral. As Hope tries to piece back together the life she formally led, it soon becomes apparent that the life she had was never to return.

I have to say, I did not like Hope’s character, at first. She came off as so damn angry at the world for what had happened to her. She was going off on everybody because she was sick, found in her apartment unresponsive, and later declared deceased. Of course, this isn’t something that happens every day, but it happened to Hope and she was damn mad about it. After witnessing her journey of trying to get some type of normalcy to her life, her anger became very apparent to me and I finally could sympathize with what she was enduring. That was truly messed up what happened to her, and she had every right to be angry.

What Hope eventually learns is that what she thought of herself, others didn’t quite see her that way. This story really opens the eyes and makes you ask some serious questions. The author did an amazing job in making the reader question their own life and how much order do they actually have, God forbid you were to actually die today or tomorrow. So many people do not leave wills around and then the family is left having to make decisions that perhaps weren’t in your plans. But, if you don’t write down what your plans are, how the hell do you expect your family to know what you’d want? I’m telling you this book really raised some very good questions and makes you take a closer look at yourself. I absolutely loved that! Overall, I felt this was a great story line and quite humorous at times. The things Hope thinks and feels is pretty much how anyone would be. Her character felt real. But there were times I felt Hope was so sarcastic and went off on the wrong people, due to her frustration with her situation. This was causing me not to be sympathetic to her sometimes. However, having said that, I get it and I get Hope.

The Sexy Nerd gives Woke Up Dead four deep breaths. This is a cute novella that will pull at your heartstrings at times, make you want to hurt people at others, and send you into a laughing frenzy all rolled into one. What a funny story that works. I enjoyed it, and I’m sure you will too. Please pick up a copy at your favorite book retailers.

#Book #Tour...XYZ...#Humor #Fiction #Giveaway

XYZ :
One Man, two kids, ten devices and an internet-sized generation gap
by William Knight
Genre: Humorous Fiction
From a former Guardian and BBC writer, and author of The Donated, comes a hilarious story of mid-life crisis, family, technology, and coping with the modern workplace.

Jack Cooper is a depressed, analogue throwback; a cynical, alcoholic Gen-Xer whose glory days are behind him. He’s unemployed, his marriage has broken down, he’s addicted to internet hook-ups, and is deeply ashamed of his son Geronimo, who lives life dressed as a bear.

When Jack’s daughter engineers a job for him at totally-lit tech firm Sweet, he’s confronted by a Millennial and Zoomer culture he can’t relate to. He loathes every detail – every IM, gif and emoji – apart from Freya, twenty years his junior and addicted to broadcasting her life on social media.

Can Jack evolve to fit in at Sweet, or will he remain a dinosaur stuck in the 1980s? And will he halt his slide into loneliness and repair his family relationships?

XYZ is for every Gen-Xer who ever struggled with a device, and for everyone else who loves emojis ... said no one ever.

‘Essential reading for anyone in the workplace over 40, and a handbook for those cocky bastards who are not.’

Paula (Boomer, wannabe GenX)

William Knight's writing credits include The Guardian, The Financial Times and the BBC, among many others publications, where he has written about the successes and failings of technology.

He currently lives in Wellington, NZ, where he works as an IT consultant and writes blistering content for technology firms.

The Donated, (first published as Generation), is a thriller based on the dangers of experimenting with viral DNA and ignoring science. It features a techno-phobic journo.

XYZ is a mid-life car crash. Jack Cooper works for a super-cool tech firm and can't operate his own mobile phone. Besides, his life is falling apart because his family is addicted to the internet.

Other novels, The Fractured and Foretold, may be available "one day" he says.

About the Author

I hate the idea of being kept in a box. I have always had a creative flair and delight in quilting, writing, and occasionally dusting off my flute. Over the past decade, I've served my clients and community as a family law attorney. I genuinely love serving, but being devoted to others can often leave one feeling drained and unfulfilled.

In 2019, a mind shift happened. I decided to unchain myself from my desk and nurture my need to create. I stopped living the life others expected of me and started chasing my dreams. In September of 2019, my first book, Woke Up Dead, will be available for purchase. It is an amusing, tongue-in-cheek novella about a young woman who wakes up at her own funeral, to the shock of those in attendance, and soon finds that getting back to life as normal is nearly impossible.

In my spare time, you can find me traveling, creating, attending concerts, and drinking my sorrows away after the latest Buffalo Bills loss. I also attend as many P!nk experiences as I possibly can. (She does not do concerts ... she creates bucket list experiences ...).

The Sexy Nerd's #Book #Review...The Last Black Unicorn by Tiffany Haddish...A Hilarious #Read #Comedy #Fivestar

From stand-up comedian, actress, and breakout star of Girls Trip, Tiffany Haddish, comes The Last Black Unicorn, a sidesplitting, hysterical, edgy, and unflinching collection of (extremely) personal essays, as fearless as the author herself.

Growing up in one of the poorest neighborhoods of South Central Los Angeles, Tiffany learned to survive by making people laugh. If she could do that, then her classmates would let her copy their homework, the other foster kids she lived with wouldn’t beat her up, and she might even get a boyfriend. Or at least she could make enough money—as the paid school mascot and in-demand Bar Mitzvah hype woman—to get her hair and nails done, so then she might get a boyfriend.

None of that worked (and she’s still single), but it allowed Tiffany to imagine a place for herself where she could do something she loved for a living: comedy.

Tiffany can’t avoid being funny—it’s just who she is, whether she’s plotting shocking, jaw-dropping revenge on an ex-boyfriend or learning how to handle her newfound fame despite still having a broke person’s mind-set. Finally poised to become a household name, she recounts with heart and humor how she came from nothing and nowhere to achieve her dreams by owning, sharing, and using her pain to heal others.

By turns hilarious, filthy, and brutally honest, The Last Black Unicorn shows the world who Tiffany Haddish really is—humble, grateful, down-to-earth, and funny as hell. And now, she’s ready to inspire others through the power of laughter.

The Sexy Nerd ‘Revue’

This novel kept popping up everywhere I went online. Eventually, I couldn’t ignore it and added it to my Kindle wish list on Amazon. I figured since Tiffany Haddish is superhot these days, I wanted to read her memoir and find out what the funny lady is all about.

Well, I laughed so hard until I peed a little bit is what I got from her words. There were times I don’t even think she was trying to be funny, and she just oozes hilarity. One thing you have to honor and respect about Tiffany is that she kept it one hundred! In fact, there were parts of her story that was so raw and in your face, I was shocked she even went there with her readers, but she kept it very real with her audience. I can’t hate on that. I could feel her sincerity in her words.

I will say this book is definitely not for the Christian based readers. And by that I mean, if you’re one of those readers who have problems with profanity, sexual situations and talking about people in general, you may want to pass this book up because Tiffany doesn’t make any apologies for her life and who she is—nor should she have to. Although she’s a humbled woman now, her beginnings were far from that. It was just heartbreaking learning about her biological mother and what she endured thereby turning her mental instabilities onto Tiffany. But, I have to say, had her mother not had mental issues, Tiffany wouldn’t be the comedian she is. In fact, her upbringing was preparing her for a bigger blessing. God definitely brought this young woman into her own. And thank God for that because she’s a wonderful fresh voice to the literary world, as well as on screen and in comedy.

She can speak rudely sometimes and just throw her thoughts out there not really giving a damn who she may offend. Actually, if you think about it, how can anyone be mad at her for that. This is her story and it may not be packaged all sugary sweet as some of our lives may have been, but it’s not for us to judge. Tiffany is about as real as they come and I applaud her for telling her truth and being vulnerable enough to tell us who she is. She lets the world into her life and it was really horrible for a while. I could not believe all this woman has endured having turned out as well as she did. She was definitely guided by God’s hands.

This was an amazing read and one you can get through quickly because you can’t put the book down. You want to find out what else has she done or who has done something to her. I felt her pain, and it was a pleasure to journey through her life on the pages. What an awesome lady she is. I ain’t hatin’ Tiffany! You deserve all the wonderful things you’re receiving right now in this life.

The Sexy Nerd gives The Last Black Unicorn five laugh-out-loud stars. Tiffany’s story will take your breath away, have you peeing your drawls and speaking aloud as you read her crazy stories about show business, men, and life as a whole. I am so glad I added this to my Kindle reads. It’s an amazing story. I wish you continued success in all you do, Tiffany Haddish! God bless you!
