Everything is going smoothly, until someone rats them out to the cops.

Now, Jennifer and Nari need help from a team of seasoned criminals to pull off a heist that’ll either set them up for life…or get them locked up for a very long time.

Can Jennifer find a path to happily ever after that doesn’t include an ugly prison jumpsuit?
There’s only one way to find out…

The Sweetest Getaway is a no spice, cozy heist novel with laughs, a diverse cast, and the smartest heroines since Ocean’s 8. Perfect for fans of women’s fiction and crime capers. Get it today for a criminally good time.

Excerpt

“All we have to do is confidently walk to the door like we’re supposed to be here,” Nari said under her breath.

She and Jennifer argued in the parking lot of Omaha’s largest mansion as glamorously dressed revelers approached the entrance, arm in arm.

“I’ll enter five minutes before you. When they ask for our names, remember that I’m Doris and you’re Béatrice. After that, everything will be easy. No big deal,” Nari explained.

Right. It was no big deal to Nari because she was endlessly charming, constantly meeting new people, and making loads of cash from random schemes that took her all over the world. Jennifer, on the other hand, was great at petting her neighbors’ dogs and getting lost mid-conversation in daydreams about faraway lands she’d never visited.

Doris Huang and Béatrice Boivin were wealthy business-women who were actually invited to the gala. Jennifer had helped Nari find an Asian and black woman on the guest list that they could impersonate. Doris and Béatrice looked enough like them, although Doris was in her fifties. Luckily, Doris wore glasses, so Nari could hide her youth behind a pair of round black frames that complemented her off-the-shoulder, gold metallic gown.

“Honestly, Nari, I don’t think it’s going to be that easy.” Jennifer tapped her fingers nervously on her arm. “What if Doris and Béatrice are inside already? Why don’t we look for a back entrance to sneak into instead?”

At least there would be fewer witnesses if they got caught at the back entrance. Maybe they could even pretend they were lost, ask for directions, and then decide to scrap the whole mission and return to their cozy apartment. “Oh well, that didn’t work. At least we tried!” Jennifer would say peppily. Nari would shrug. They’d end the night bingeing on popcorn and singing nineties hits into their TV’s karaoke app.

But Nari would never give up that easily. “Nah, we’re early. We’ll have at least an hour before these two fabulous women show up. They’re always late for events like this. Besides, our target is already inside.”

Jennifer groaned. “This is nuts. I’ve got to pretend to be French like Béatrice.” She shook her head. “I can’t even tell the difference between a good macaron and a bad one. They’re all delicious to me. I don’t know why I let you talk me into this.”

“I know why you said yes, mon amie,” Nari said, grinning. “Remember, you’ll be getting twenty-five percent of whatever deal we pull off after today. If I can close this deal, it could be worth half a million dollars.”

Jennifer had almost forgotten about the payout. Normally, Nari compensated her for these wild rides with chili cheese fries. She sucked in air through her teeth. “I... I can’t really say no to that,” she said, goosebumps covering her arms.

With that kind of money, maybe she could travel far beyond Omaha’s borders. She’d meet wonderful, surprising people. People who spoke five languages, painted in their spare time, and effortlessly rode their electric scooters through crowded street markets before arriving at home to make love to their beautiful spouses. Maybe she could even quit her job as a marketing analyst.

Nari swept her arm out in front of her, as if she were showing off her kingdom. “Welcome to the business world. There’s tons of cash just waiting for you.”

Money came easily to Nari, even though she had the attention span of a gnat. She could have her own massive condo if she wanted to, but she chose to live with Jennifer to feel a sense of home so far away from her family. Jennifer, however, was thirty-six years old and broke. If she didn’t live with Nari, she would have to start a window washing side hustle to be able to afford her student loan payments. “It’s my favorite business world, the one where we have to sneak into galas to close deals,” Jennifer snorted.

Historical Fiction

In a world where women are seen but rarely heard, Adélaïde Labille-Guiard refuses to be silenced.

The daughter of Parisian shopkeepers, Adélaïde dreams not of marriage or titles but of earning a place among the masters of French art. With Queen Marie Antoinette on the throne and a spirit of change in the air, anything seems possible. But as revolution brews and powerful forces conspire to deny her success, Adélaïde faces an impossible choice: protect her life—or fight for a legacy that will outlast her.

Inspired by the true story of one of the first women admitted to the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture, Adélaïde: Painter of the Revolution is a sweeping, evocative portrait of ambition, courage, and resilience in the face of history’s fiercest storm.

About the Author. . .

Janell Strube makes a mean barbecue sauce. She’s also a world traveler, a baker, and a bicyclist. But when she writes, her identity as an adoptee often steers her attention to topics of alienation, erased history, and displacement.

In 2024, a personal essay of hers was published in the anthology Adoption and Suicidality. Her work has also appeared in Shaking the Tree: brazen. short. memoir and A Year in Ink. Her short memoir, “Taking my Blonde Daughter to a Black Lives Matter Rally,” was selected for the 2020 San Diego Memoir Showcase, an annual live storytelling event.

While much of her writing is personal, she enjoys the freedom that comes with crafting fiction. Her desire to learn about forgotten female artists who shaped the French revolutionary period motivated her to write Adélaïde: Painter of the Revolution.

When not crunching numbers as a tax executive for a hotel chain, she can be found hanging out with Shiloh the Wheaten and plotting her second book.

#BookReview #NewBlogPost #LizMoore...The God of the Woods...#Mystery #Suspense #FamilySaga @SexyNerdRevue

When a teenager vanishes from her Adirondack summer camp, two worlds collide.

Early morning, August 1975: a camp counselor discovers an empty bunk. Its occupant, Barbara Van Laar, has gone missing. Barbara isn’t just any thirteen-year-old: she’s the daughter of the family that owns the summer camp and employs most of the region’s residents. And this isn’t the first time a Van Laar child has disappeared. Barbara’s older brother similarly vanished fourteen years ago, never to be found.

As a panicked search begins, a thrilling drama unfolds. Chasing down the layered secrets of the Van Laar family and the blue-collar community working in its shadow, Moore’s multi-threaded story invites readers into a rich and gripping dynasty of secrets and second chances.

Liz Moore’s most ambitious and wide-reaching novel yet, The God of the Woods is a story of inheritance and second chances, the tensions between a family and a community, and a history that will not let any of them go.

The Sexy Nerd's Review. . .

This novel was selected by my book club and I was a bit skeptical because it had over 470 pages and my first thought was if this book isn’t any good, I’ll be on a struggle bus for a very long time. Well, as luck would have it, I didn’t need to worry because it was pretty good.

Before I attempt to unpack all of what was going on in this story, I had some pros and cons happening while I read. For me there is only one author who I consider to be the king of plots and twists and that’s Sidney Sheldon. I’m a huge fan of his work and when I read the Other Side of Midnight, I was so hooked! I have to admit, Moore runs a very close second to him when it comes to telling a story. I didn’t think I’d ever come across an author who could spin a tale while so many things were happening, but Moore did that!

We’re in August of 1975 at Self-Reliance camp in the Adirondack mountains. It’s a time that most kids of the well-to-do look forward to going. The Van Laars are very wealthy and own the campsite the kids frequent. One evening, after dinner was served and the kids were all in their bunks for the night, as morning approached a camp counselor did her rounds and discovered on her count that one of the kids was missing. Not only was this child missing but it’s important to note that Barbara Van Laar, a descendant to the throne of Van Laars, was nowhere to be found. Uh-oh! Another Van Laar has gone without a trace.

Hold up! Did your eyes deceive you? No! You read that correctly, another Van Laar had vanished. Back in August of 1961 fourteen years prior, Peter “Bear” Van Laar went missing from those same campgrounds never to be heard from again. Bear is Barbara’s elder brother. She’s heard stories about Bear but never got to meet him. Peter and Alice Van Laar, the parents to both Bear and Barbara, are going insane. Alice became ill again as she did when her beloved son, Bear, went missing and now her daughter has suffered the same fate. Who was taking the Van Laar children and why?

The townspeople were up in arms and distraught that the same thing could happen twice at the exact campground. And not to mention they were siblings for God’s sake. What was happening in the Adirondack mountains? Was there a serial killer on the loose and hunting the Van Laars family? The story begins to shift between 1961 and 1975. Each chapter you read is told from a different perspective of either staff members of the campgrounds or the Van Laar family themselves. As you begin to navigate each of their stories, a larger picture comes into focus. This is where Moore really shined.

I kept wondering what the importance of all these little stories was within this larger novel and once I got a clear understanding of the characters, the story came into view in a major way. However, having said that, this is where things started to get a little weird. The back and forth within the fourteen years did grate on my nerves a bit. But it didn’t totally bother me because I enjoyed the story I was reading. About 50% into the story, several scenarios started to form and I knew I was figuring the story out. Even with that, I was still ok with it. When I reached 90% and I knew I was dead on, that’s when I got agitated.

Why, you ask? I was thrilled that I had figured it out but then bummed that I figured it out and that it wasn’t more to it than what I figured. If any of that makes sense to you? I’m not sure how to explain my feelings here. The story was good but it lifted me up into this amazing crescendo and then it’s like the words fell flat. I suppose what I’m trying to convey is that the story hyped me up and then the ending left me like “blah”! I wish Moore had taken another route instead of the one she took. It just seemed a bit obvious to me and I guess that’s why I felt so let down. I read all those words and hundreds of pages only for it to end like that?

Hmm, I don’t know Nerds. I’m really on that dreaded fence here. Like I said this is an amazing story and so well written. Moore definitely has writing skills and knows how to engage her reader, but for as much work as it took for this reader to get where she was going, I feel she should have given me a better prize at the end. I hope I’ve made myself clear.

The Sexy Nerd gives The God of the Woods four additional trails for the campers to hike. I would have given this novel three and a half stars because of the length of the story and finding the ending a bit lack luster but Moore made up for it because she is truly an amazing author. I always give credit where it’s due whether I like a story or not. This was an incredible story told very well and I encourage any reader who enjoys long stories and super sleuthing, this would be an awesome story to take on. I read most of this while on vacation and it certainly kept me entertained. Until next time, Nerds, you know how we do!

Joy was right - everything will change, just not in the way they expected. On Andie and Cassie’s birthday, Joy Moody is found dead and her girls face a world they are not prepared for without their mother. Joy Moody is out of time… in many ways. From the author of the beloved novel Lenny Marks Gets Away with Murder comes another quirky and irresistible new crime novel

The Sexy Nerd's Review...

Twins Cassie and Andie live with their mother, Joy Moody, in a smalltown working in their cute bright pink laundromat, Joyful Suds. There are quite a few eccentric neighbors who reside in Bayside alongside Joy and her girls. But that doesn’t matter because Joy and the twins are about to embark on a time traveling journey moving them to the year 2050 where the twins will be 27 years old and meet their futuristic parents.

Ok, say what now? Yes, Joy has been preparing her twins for their journey home to the future of 2050 and today in 2023, the twins turn twenty-one. Wait, the math ain’t mathing, right? Hmm! Cassie and Andie were excited about going to the year 2050. Joy has been preparing them for this very moment in August of 2023 for them to go home and meet the parents they are supposed to be with but something is off.

Joy’s brother came to town for a visit. She hadn’t seen Grant in quite a few years and now all of a sudden he just pops up unexpectedly. He wants to stake his claim to Joyful Suds because their father left it to them and not Joy solely. Joy knew this information was wrong and quickly ushered her brother out of her establishment before the girls would see him. Not only was Joy aggravated by Grant’s resurfacing but a blast from the past came to visit her as well. Could this visitor have something to do with her and the girls going to 2050? Tyler comes unannounced at Joy’s doorstep unbeknownst to her believing he was a customer coming to pickup clothes when he advises that he received a strange message from an Andie and wanted to know if his girlfriend of over 20 years ago had ever set foot in Joy’s place? Joy immediately felt ill at the sight of Tyler and knowing what he truly represented. He was interested in finding Britney, his long lost girlfriend of many years ago. What was Joy’s connection to Britney? Well, Joy wasn’t about to get into this conversation with a strange man she didn’t know. He further advises that he received a notice from History Mystery telling him he may have a relative named Andie. Joy knew at that moment; her time was running out. She had something particularly important to do before her twins returned home for their birthday celebration.

What I love about Mayne’s writing is how quirky she makes her characters. They always do things you don’t normally read about in books and her story lines may feel slow at times but when you keep reading, she begins to paint a picture so vivid you feel like you could step right in and become a part of it. However, having said that, what irritates me about Mayne’s books is the story is entirely too long. She truly makes you work for it and I find that some of the moments she adds in feel like extra fluff that could have been left out. She doesn’t edit herself enough and that can grate on my nerves. Even though that is a pet-peeve of mine, I still love her stories.

The Sexy Nerd gives Joy Moody is Out of Time four extra minutes longer. When you delve into this story and find out what is really going on, you’ll think to yourself, “oh, I get it.” Welcome to the world of Kerryn Mayne. She’s an exceptional writer. Joy Moody is Out of Time goes on sale on Tues., Aug. 19, 2025, at your favorite book retailers or wherever books are sold. Until next time, Nerds, you know how we do! 😉

Contemporary Gay Romance, Polyamorous

Casey can get just about any man he wants, except for the one he wants the most.

Casey Cox is a porn star legend. Life is a never-ending party and there's always a hot guy or two willing to play. Then Casey meets the one man who isn't interested and suddenly it's a challenge he can't resist.

ADULT EXCERPT

“Suck me tender.”

“Hey dumbass, I’m the boss here. If you didn’t have a big shlong, you wouldn’t get any screen time.”

I picked up the towel and covered up my biggest asset. “Jealous much?”

Max looked like he was ready to blow steam but he clenched his jaw and nodded toward the king-sized bed. It was all decked out in white linen, the better to show off our tanned bodies. “I want you and Joey to do a fast run through, no sex, before we start filming.”

“Time is money,” I said, throwing his own words back at him. “I don’t need to rehearse.”

“Says you. Did you even read the script?”

“Course I did. Masturbate first, and then Joey walks in and gives me a hand. It’s not rocket science.” It was an easy scene. I could do it in my sleep. I never have a problem getting hard, especially when I know somebody’s watching.

“Okay Mr. Motherfucking-Know-It-All, do your thing.”

I sat on the bed and leaned back against the headboard.

Max spit out one word. “Action.”

I started rubbing my cock through the material of the towel. After a minute, I flung open the towel and let my dick take a bow. It was stiff and begging for attention but I ignored it. Slowly I ran my hands down my chest, tweaking my nipples until they were erect. It didn’t take long. My hot buttons are super sensitive. A delicious warmth spread through my groin. It was time to give my prick some attention. I gave it a few easy strokes, taking my time so I could show off my body. Occasionally I glanced at the camera with a smoldering gaze. Then I started jerking off in a steady rhythm.

Nobody knows my hot spots like I do. It didn’t take long for my breathing to speed up. My balls drew up tight and I knew I was close. Where the heck was Joey? He should have been here by now. I wanted to give him a cum shower. Max was a shit director. One day I’d direct my own films. I tried to hold off, but my cock was throbbing. Fuck it. I was too close. One more hard stroke and I hosed myself down with a massive cum load.

White cream covered my chest, up to my neck and under my chin. I groaned, scooped some up with my fingers and licked them clean. I knew I looked hot as hell.

“Cut!” Max stood over me, hands on hips. “I tell you when to come.”

“You can’t hold back momentum, Max.” One of these days I’ll quit mouthing off, but not today. “If you could get it up, you’d know that.”

If looks could kill I would have died right then, but Max couldn’t touch me. I was golden. Nobody made the studio more money than I did.

“Face it, Max. I know what my audience wants and I give it to them. That’s why you pay me the big bucks.”

“Get over yourself, princess. You’re a fucking porn actor. There’s a thousand more waiting to take your place.”

As usual, Paul, the cameraman and peacemaker, tried to diffuse the situation. “This is good stuff, Max. The guys will eat it up.”

Max gave him a disgusted look and turned back to me. “You got anything left for Joey?”

“Does a tin man have a stainless steel cock?”

Everybody laughed except Max. Fuck him. He turned his back, but not before he took another long look at my chest. I smiled as I lay back against the pillows. Look all you want, Max, but you’ll never get your hands on this body. But I knew he’d take the film home and masturbate to it all night.

“Hey, Cox.”

My head jerked up at the sound of Joey’s voice. People tend to think that porn stars don’t have real lives. They think that, given the nature of what we do for a living, we must be emotionally detached and incapable of having a real relationship. That’s only partly true. While I don’t have, need, or want, a significant other, I have my sister, Julie, and my best friends, Joey and Paul.

Joey is not only a friend, he’s also a great costar. He’s a lean six feet, with short spiky blond hair and brown eyes. The dude is practically hairless while I sport a sexy trail of dark hair that leads to a well-manicured bush. The camera loves the contrasts between us, and so do the guys who buy our videos. We spend so much time together, it was only natural we’d become buddies.

Grinning, Joey sat on the bed. “You just can’t help yourself, can you, Casey?” He started wiping my chest with a warm, wet cloth.

Self-Help / Non-Fiction

Date Published: 08-26-2025

You’ve poured yourself into motherhood. Now it’s time to pour a little back into you.

If you’ve ever felt like parts of you went quiet in the background — your voice, your creativity, your dreams — Mom Take Center Stage is your invitation to rise.

This empowering guide invites you to stop shrinking and start shining.

With raw honesty and hard-won wisdom, Satya V. Nauth helps you reclaim your power, purpose, and presence — unapologetically.

You’ll learn how to:

Break cycles of self-abandonment and burnout

Release perfectionism and reconnect with your wholeness

Embrace your identity beyond the roles you carry

Live boldly, confidently, and without apology

Step into the spotlight of your own life — fully alive

This isn’t a book about balance.

It’s a book about becoming whole again.

Because the world doesn’t need a perfect mom.

It needs you — rooted, radiant, and real.

Introduction

For many years, I poured out my heart and soul in the name of motherhood. In the process, I lost myself. After having kids, I faced a series of challenges that seemed insurmountable. Those very challenges became the reasons for overcoming obstacles and confidently becoming my authentic self . . . the real me. My life used to revolve entirely around my children. They were the center of my universe. I was buried under the chaos that was unravelling right before my eyes. While I loved being a mother, somewhere along the way, I lost sight of who I was.

My days were consumed by endless tasks: work, school drop-offs and pickups, doctor visits, maintaining the household, and juggling countless after-school activities. But I knew motherhood was an investment. It was a bittersweet time though. While I loved raising my kids, I didn’t love that I was paying a hefty price through my selflessness. I thought that pursuing my dreams and goals meant giving up on my children, which felt like a betrayal of motherhood. Then it hit me: One day my children will grow up, and I’ll have to face myself again. Who will I be then? Since children grow up and become adults, I realized I needed to reclaim my individuality. Buried in all those years of dedication, I began to see things more clearly: I needed to muster up the courage to find myself, to become multidimensional, to take center stage.

We are all called to discover our higher purpose. Going through a myriad of emotions, it’s easy to play the blame game. Blame the world, blame our health, blame our past, blame current situations, and blame the decisions that have led to this moment. With all that said, I have to ask you: Mom, isn’t it time you took center stage?

This book is taken from the lessons I have learned through trial and error. It is a daring guide of self-acceptance, personal development, and remarkable success after having children. I’m here as a woman, like you, who has gone through some beautifully chaotic and humbling experiences after having kids. Some difficult growth experiences that have led to establishing my full identity and, at the same time, becoming a better parent. Not as an appendage to my children or spouse but as a confident, bold woman who knows and understands my worth because I have rediscovered myself.

Gals, it’s pretty easy to close this book and move on to the next thing that calls to us. And with the endless distractions out there, you could head to Facebook, Instagram or TikTok and go down that rabbit hole. Or you could go back to washing that mountain of laundry. This is my call to you: When will you do the things that will allow you to stand on your own feet? When will you be daringly bold? When is the right time for you? I’ll tell you: That time is now. It’s today. It is in this moment. This is your chance to finally become who you were meant to be.

Life is unpredictable, so what I’m asking of you isn’t a cutesy idea. It is a life skill that we as women and as mothers need to impart not only to ourselves, but also to our children. Be prepared before the necessity becomes desperation. Be an example to your kids. Show them that this valiant woman is also in charge of her life, her autonomy, her decisions. She isn’t afraid to dream, set goals, and go forth.

This guide is intended not only for the two of us. It is also meant for every woman who needs to hear that she is enough, that there is hope to learn, to grow, and to achieve everything her heart calls to irrespective of age, status, skin color, religion, or any difference that makes you one in a million. Anything that makes you stand out is your superpower! Let’s embark on this journey together. I can’t wait to see the woman you’ll rediscover—the bold, confident, and unstoppable YOU.

With a background in economics, cannabis tech, and startup absurdity, he’s witnessed more backroom deals, biometric scams, and VC ring-kissing than he can legally confirm. He once tried to sell machine-learning sensors to weed farmers—who stored them in paint buckets. When he’s not writing, he’s mentoring his grown sons, recording blues in his garage, or sitting on a beach with a sand-filled truck and a strong opinion about data, death, and denim.

#NewBlogPost #BookReview #HappyReading...Peter Miles Has to Die...#NetGalley #KatieCollom

Four friends became three. Only murder will set things right.

An emotional "what would you do?" thriller debut about revenge, the bonds of friendship, the reverberations of a small-town crime, the limits of justice.

Peter Miles has to die. And Dylan Darcy, Priyanka Shah, and Isabel Guerrero—a bartender, a nurse, and a student—have to be the ones to kill him. As they see it, this local cop deserves death for murdering their best friend and getting away with it. All they need to do to pull off the perfect crime is stick to their carefully prepared plan.

So that's exactly what they do. Murder, it turns out, is surprisingly easy when you're fueled by revenge. What comes after is the hard part.

As the dry Texas heat gives way to cooler weather, their blazing rage is replaced by a chill fear. Because there’s a fallout that comes from settling the score against someone like Peter, and it could cost them more than they’ve bargained for. When the lead investigator on the case starts sniffing around for a cop-killer, the three friends are not feeling as confident as they did on that fateful night. And when they start receiving death threats, it weakens their resolve even further . . . but it’s too little too late.

What they don’t realize is that this detective has her own reasons for wanting to get to the bottom of Peter's murder. Reasons that don’t involve them at all. The investigation ramps up, and so does the pressure, leaving Dylan, Priya, and Isabel to wonder if ending his life may end up costing them theirs.

As the guilt of what they've done settles in their bones, they realize there's no going back. Someone is going to have to take the fall.

The Sexy Nerd's Review. . .

I had a couple scenarios brewing from a few paragraphs as to how this story may go and I was dead on. What an interesting read indeed!

Imagine having four close friends with whom you’ve known most of your life and one of those friends begins dating a guy and she’s all giddy like a school-girl crush with the excitement of a new love abound and something goes horribly wrong. What do I mean by “wrong” you ask? After your friend discovers the guy she’s dating is not only a jerk, but also happens to be a police officer, who do you call when he has stalker-ish behavior?

If only Dylan, Priya, and Isabel could have saved their beloved friend, Rebecca, better known as Beck. Peter Miles, the police officer, has brought so much chaos to the girlfriends that all they can think about is getting even with him. He murdered their best friend and has gotten away with it. Where’s the justice in that?

Dylan wasn’t quite sure where Lady Justice went, but she knew how to rectify the current situation. There was only one conclusion for her to come to, Peter Miles must die. Sometimes you find when you wish for something so hard, wishes really do come true because Peter was found murdered. There wasn’t any love lost among the friends. The police were upset that someone murdered one of their own. Immediately they began questioning Beck’s family and friends because naturally they’d have a vendetta against Peter. But no matter how hard they tried, the friends weren’t giving up any information.

However, although the ladies wouldn’t cooperate with the police, there’s something to be said about holding on to secrets. Everyone isn’t cut out to deal with guilt. Some people, no matter how angry they are at a situation can't follow through with being on the wrong side of the law. Because let’s face it, these ladies didn’t have anything to hide, right? These friends were tested and then some.

At the end of the day, what these women found out is that some plans sound good in theory when you speak them into existence, but once they are executed, there’s no “do over” button. Real life just doesn’t work that way. I figured out the ending long before I got there, but it did not take anything away from the story.

The Sexy Nerd gives Peter Miles Has to Die four stars. This is the first time I’ve ever read this author. Her style was extremely detail-oriented which grated on my nerves. She put so much side attractions into the story, there wasn’t much room for dialogue. I found myself skipping the background noise and cut right to the interaction of the characters. I realize some readers like that type of detail, but it was way too much for my tastes. I appreciate having some detail, but this story oozed detail causing the story to be entirely too long. But, as my readers know, those are my pet-peeves. It’s still a good story to read. I enjoyed the journey. Peter Miles Has to Die goes on sale, Tues., August 12, 2025 at your favorite book retailers or wherever books are sold.

Until next time, Nerds, you know how we do!  😉

The Sexy Nerd's Review...

My fans know how much I’m a sucker when it comes to reading a good horror book. I could read horror books all day every day, but I try to curb my enthusiasm until October. But this little gem came my way and I figured why not give it a go.

This is really a cute “horror” book. It’s not going to terrify you at night like say, The Exorcist would, but if you’re out camping with a group of your friends, these thirty-one stories would most definitely be high on your list to scare them.

What I most enjoyed were the differences between the stories and how some of them were funny, while others made you think a moment and some made you sad. One of my favorites was Man’s Best Friend. That ghost story resonated with me because I had a similar experience like the main character. I know many people do not believe in ghosts, but I definitely do. That was such a cute story and I enjoyed it.

There were some stories that gave me a chuckle. I noticed in the reviews many felt it wasn’t categorized correctly because I guess it’s being promoted as a graphic novel. I do have to agree with those reviewers because I wouldn’t classify this book as a graphic novel; however, I did enjoy the pictures that were drawn. In some of the stories, it helped to form an idea in the mind’s eye as to what the characters were experiencing. So, I did appreciate the drawings throughout the book.

There was another story, forgive me I can’t recall the title of the chapter, where the bride was waiting for her groom to meet her at the altar. That story made me feel a bit sad, but I totally understood why the story played out the way it did.

Overall, this was truly a cute horror book for teens and young adults. It’s safe enough that I highly doubt it would terrify them and cause them to jump under the covers with their parents and/or siblings. The stories were beautifully written and performed at the level at what you would expect from this type of ghost telling.

The Sexy Nerd gives 31 Days of Spooky four scary stars. Again, this is one of those books that would be impressive at a sleepover or sitting by a campfire with friends and trying to scare each other with. It’s safe for them to read and have fun. 31 Days of Spooky is on sale now at your favorite book retailers or wherever books are sold.  Until next time, Nerds, you know how we do!
